Prince Edward Tigers: A Loss But Not a Broken Spirit

Our Prince Edward Tigers faced a tough challenge away at St John's College this past weekend, falling 37-14. While the scoreboard might not reflect it, the Tigers put up a valiant fight against a well-prepared St John's team.

This loss comes after an impressive start to the season. The Tigers had been on a five-game winning streak since early May, showcasing their talent and determination. However, as the saying goes, sometimes you have to take a step back to leap forward. This loss serves as a reminder of the team's resilience and their ability to bounce back stronger.

The Tigers' fight was further tested by early injuries. Center Kudzi Vudzijena received a knock to his mouth, and Captain Chifamba suffered an injury during the second half. These setbacks undoubtedly disrupted the team's flow and technical strategies.

Despite the final score, the Tigers showed flashes of brilliance. Fly-half Tatenda Kamubvumbi displayed exceptional control, while hard tackles from Ethan Chitendeni, Earl Chitendeni, Academy Chauke, Brightman Mandhlare, Tadiwanashe Ziki and Milton Mukurunyowa kept the St John's Rams on their toes. The Tigers managed two tries, one each by Ethan Chitendeni (adding to his tally of 4) and Nathaniel Gabi (bringing his total to 3). Both tries showcased the team's ability to capitalize on opportunities, with Nathaniel cleverly intercepting a pass to outpace the St John's backline.

The unwavering support from the Prince Edward School community was a major boost for the Tigers. The constant chants from the stands, a reminder of the team's earlier victories, served as a source of motivation.

Coach De Souza echoed this sentiment, encouraging the players to maintain a positive attitude despite the loss. He referenced the team's previous recent wins, highlighting their potential to overcome challenges.

The Tigers are heading into their next match against St George's College with their heads held high. They understand that a loss doesn't define them, and they are determined to prove their spirit. As the saying goes, "you can't stop a wounded tiger for long." The Tigers are hungry for a win, and St George's College should be prepared for a fierce challenge.

We'll be cheering for the Tigers as they take the field, and we have no doubt they'll bounce back stronger!
